Shades of Islam 6 - Blissful Eidul Adha - The Stories Behind

Just to share with all for the coming celebration of Eiduladha  :)

Taken from : http://islam.about.com/od/hajj/a/adha.htm
What is Eid al-Adha?
At the end of the Hajj (annual pilgrimage to Mecca), Muslims throughout the world celebrate the holiday of Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice). In 2011, Eid al-Adha will begin on or around November 6th, and will last for three days.

What does Eid al-Adha commemorate?
During the Hajj, Muslims remember and commemorate the trials and triumphs of the Prophet Abraham. The Qur'an describes Abraham as follows:
"Surely Abraham was an example, obedient to Allah, by nature upright, and he was not of the polytheists. He was grateful for Our bounties. We chose him and guided him unto a right path. We gave him good in this world, and in the next he will most surely be among the righteous." (Qur'an 16:120-121)

One of Abraham's main trials was to face the command of Allah to kill his only son. Upon hearing this command, he prepared to submit to Allah's will. When he was all prepared to do it, Allah revealed to him that his "sacrifice" had already been fulfilled. He had shown that his love for his Lord superceded all others, that he would lay down his own life or the lives of those dear to him in order to submit to God.

Why do Muslims sacrifice an animal on this day?
During the celebration of Eid al-Adha, Muslims commemorate and remember Abraham's trials, by themselves slaughtering an animal such as a sheep, camel, or goat. This action is very often misunderstood by those outside the faith.

Allah has given us power over animals and allowed us to eat meat, but only if we pronounce His name at the solemn act of taking life. Muslims slaughter animals in the same way throughout the year. By saying the name of Allah at the time of slaughter, we are reminded that life is sacred.

The meat from the sacrifice of Eid al-Adha is mostly given away to others. One-third is eaten by immediate family and relatives, one-third is given away to friends, and one-third is donated to the poor. The act symbolizes our willingness to give up things that are of benefit to us or close to our hearts, in order to follow Allah's commands. It also symbolizes our willingness to give up some of our own bounties, in order to strengthen ties of friendship and help those who are in need. We recognize that all blessings come from Allah, and we should open our hearts and share with others.

It is very important to understand that the sacrifice itself, as practiced by Muslims, has nothing to do with atoning for our sins or using the blood to wash ourselves from sin. This is a misunderstanding by those of previous generations: "It is not their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah; it is your piety that reaches Him." (Qur'an 22:37)

The symbolism is in the attitude - a willingness to make sacrifices in our lives in order to stay on the Straight Path. Each of us makes small sacrifices, giving up things that are fun or important to us. A true Muslim, one who submits his or herself completely to the Lord, is willing to follow Allah's commands completely and obediently. It is this strength of heart, purity in faith, and willing obedience that our Lord desires from us.

What else do Muslims do to celebrate the holiday?
On the first morning of Eid al-Adha, Muslims around the world attend morning prayers at their local mosques. Prayers are followed by visits with family and friends, and the exchange of greetings and gifts. At some point, members of the family will visit a local farm or otherwise will make arrangements for the slaughter of an animal. The meat is distributed during the days of the holiday or shortly thereafter.

Shades of Islam 5 - Imaam Ghazali 1

Nobody is born learned. Learning is to be acquired.
Ibn Abbas Radhiallahu Anhu said :
"To discuss about learning in a portion of night is dearer to me than to keep up awake throughout the night in prayer."
Allah advised us to pray thus : "O Lord, give us good in the world and good in the hereafter - 2: 297.
In explaining 'good' in this verse, Hasan Basari Rahimahullah said that it means Knowledge so far as this world is concerned and Paradise so far as the hereafter is concerned.

Shades of Islam 4 - La Tahzan

La Tahzan InnAllaha maana...
No words I could reflect,
except the greatest names of You, arRahman, arRahim...
Indeed You never will break your promises,
As You are always be with us, in those happy moments and sadist moments...
closer than our veins.
You are the place we turn to,
Unto You we return,
The one and only God...

Beautiful song of Ahmad Bukhatir -  Don't be sad (la tahzan)

Shades of Islam 3 - Sunnah Rasulullah

Taken from : http://www.rileks.info/coollist/7-sunnah-rasulullah-saw/

7 Sunnah Rasulullah S.A.W
Hendaknya kita selalu menjaga tujuh sunnah Nabi setiap hari. Ketujuh sunnah Nabi SAW itu adalah:
Pertama: tahajjud, kerana kemuliaan seorang mukmin terletak pada tahajjudnya.
Kedua: membaca Al-Qur’an sebelum terbit matahari Alangkah baiknya sebelum mata melihat dunia, sebaiknya mata membaca Al-Qur’an terlebih dahulu dengan penuh pemahaman.
Ketiga: jangan tinggalkan masjid terutama di waktu shubuh. Sebelum melangkah kemana pun langkahkan kaki ke masjid, kerana masjid merupakan pusat keberkahan, bukan kerana panggilan muadzin tetapi panggilan Allah yang mencari orang beriman untuk memakmurkan masjid Allah.
Keempat: jaga solat dhuha, kerana kunci rezeki terletak pada solat dhuha.
Kelima: jaga sedekah setiap hari.
Wallahualam. ..

Shades of Islam 1 - The Hearts of Aqidah

The knowledge of Allah indeed is beyond human's intellectualism, it requires more than a reason, and it occupies the core of a every Muslim's soul, that is aqidah, the tool of belief. Nothing is impossible for HIM. When we have so called faith as the core of our heart, we will have the feelings of strong-convincing by someone or something that in this world, everything is governed by one entity. In Islam, we believe Allah is the sole creator. Looking from my point of view, I believe a soul are shaped by three divisions, they are the pillars of Islam, the Pillars of Iman and the concept of Ihsan. The concept of Ihsan has two functions, the first meaning is the good deed that we contribute towards others, avoiding one's darurah... e.g: When we see a nail on the road, we tent to have the responsibility to remove the nail, so that others won't get the risk. The second one which is concerned with the faith is when we have the utmost believe towards Allah by having in mind and soul that although we can't see Allah, Allah sees us. As Qur'an mentions about the existence of Allah is vary from east to the west, north to the south... subhanAllah. Allah knows the best. Indeed HE is the ruh al-qudus (holy spirit) which cannot be associated with. If we could feel and sense the greatness of Allah without HIS appearance in this world, I believe that this is the most challenging fact that creations of Allah have to confront. Islam is based on the tower of wisdom and logic reasonable... will never against human nature. The primal pillar is the pillars of Islam. The very basic of a Muslim's creed, tells us the shahadah is a part of confession, the obligatory of performing 5 times solah, fasting during month of Ramadhan, performing the transaction of zakat, and lastly performing hajj for those who can afford. The pillars of Iman is the supplement for a muslim, vital as the pillars of Islam where we should believe in the truthful existence of Allah, Malaikah, Holy Books, Prophets & Messengers, elyoum elkiyamah and Qada' & Qadar. These tons of belief are to show that every inch of life even if its a bead, there will always be a wisdom of Allah, the one who creates miraculous events.

Allahu ahad... Indeed The Pillars of Islam, Iman and The concept of Ihsan are the hearts of aqidah for us in getting to know HIM at our best.
